C-SPAN

Video Library

JESS3 worked closely with C-SPAN to build a site to house its entire video archive on the web, including the Congressional Chronicle, which features a page for each member of Congress who has spoken on the House and Senate floors. The C-SPAN Video Library was awarded a "Peabody":http://www.c-span.org/Events/C-SPAN-Video-Library-Wins-Peabody-Award/10737420637/ in 2011 and a "Golden Beacon Award":http://www.multichannel.com/article/457243-ACC_Awards_Golden_Beacon_To_C_SPAN_s_Video_Library.php, the Association of Cable Communicators' highest honor, in 2010. With over 23 years and 160,000 hours of footage, "Mediaite":http://www.mediaite.com/online/c-span-online-archives-will-redefine-social-studies-education-in-america/ hailed this effort as "arguably the most exciting academic task since the founding of Wikipedia." New York Times reporter "Brian Stetler":http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/16/arts/television/16cspan.html also covered the story by stating: "researchers, political satirists and partisan mudslingers, take note: C-SPAN has uploaded virtually every minute of its video archives to the Internet."
