The Voice of the Active Learner

The Project: Education software titan Blackboard approached JESS3 to create a motion graphic depicting the changing state of education. The video was to focus on today’s students — active learners — who no longer passively wait in a classroom to be taught, but rather seek out information on their own.

Our Methodology: JESS3 and Blackboard worked together to craft a script that highlighted the adaptive traditions of the contemporary student. No longer confined to the classroom, JESS3 packed the piece full of colorful visuals and swirling scenes of today’s virtual world. They broke the framework off the traditional schoolhouse and left it, quite literally, struggling to keep up. By creating a piece full of color and an almost constant feeling of movement, JESS3 was able to convey a sense of an educational experience, in constant flux.
Although told from the perspective of a student, JESS3 incorporated data that appealed to various audiences within the educational community – including faculty and administration. In the end, the piece directs the viewer to “keep up” with the current pace of education today. If you think you have the stamina, we challenge you to watch this 2 minute piece on the active learner. Just remember to stretch first.

The Results: The video kicked off Blackboard CEO Michael Chasen’s keynote address at the annual BbWorld Conference held in New Orleans. More than 3,000 attendees saw the debut illustrating to Blackboard’s own community that adapting for the current educational experience, was an immediate need. It successfully left the audience with an inspired viewpoint and a better perception on Blackboard’s tools and potential in today’s ever-evolving educational system.

Eloqua x JESS3 Partner Again to Create Sequel Video

Eloqua and JESS3 have partnered again to create the sequel to The Future of Revenue. This video defines Revenue Performance Management and its impact on not only the world of sales and marketing but on the future of business as a whole. Eloqua wanted to define this slightly abstract concept more thoroughly, and to show that Revenue Performance Management adds a more scientific, and less creative, element to marketing.

JESS3 Designs Posters for Google's New LA Office

To celebrate the opening of its new offices, Google LA approached frequent design partner JESS3 to create 13 movie-sized posters, one for each of the major engineering efforts at the LA site that would live beyond the opening event in November. The result is a group of fun illustrated infographics which tell the story of the processes behind Ad Sense, Chrome, and Google+ photo sharing and more.

The End of Entrepreneurial Adolescence

Having functioned entirely under the “work-from-home” model until January of this year, we cannot speak more highly about what the physical space and proximity has done for our process, results, cohesion and inside jokes. This seems like an obvious statement to make, but as as a scrappy start-up that has been transforming into an established agency over the last two years, it is an important reflection point for us.

JESS3 wins Gold for Small Agency of the Year: Southeast Region at the fourth annual Ad Age Small Agency Awards, 2012. JESS3 CEO and Founder, Jesse Thomas was present in Minneapolis to accept the prestigious award. Ad Age Editor, Abbey Klaassen commented on this year's entries, “— We continue to be impressed by the quality of entries, proving that size has no bearing on the ability to offer effective marketing ideas." She continued, “I can confidently say that our winners exemplify creativity, entrepreneurialism and ingenuity -- there's a lot to be learned from them, no matter what your size."

The Economist's Women's Economic Opportunity Index by JESS3

In hopes of going beyond the traditionally static, and oftentimes boring, PowerPoint presentation, The Economist tapped JESS3 to help bring an important a 150-page report assembled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the "Women’s Economic Opportunity Index" to life through a powerful graphic animation.
